🧠 Victoria Makes Psychological Health a Legal Priority — New Regulations Now in Force
Posted on: 4 December 2025
From 1 December 2025, Victorian employers are legally required to identify, manage, and control psychosocial hazards under the new Occupational Health and Safety (Psychological Health) Regulations 2025.
These changes make it clear that mental health risks must be treated with the same seriousness as physical safety hazards.
According to WorkSafe Victoria, employers must now take specific steps to address psychosocial risks such as:
- • Bullying or harassment
- • Aggression or violence
- • High workloads or poor job design
- • Exposure to traumatic events or content
“Safe work is about more than preventing physical injury — it’s just as crucial to protect workers from risks to their mental health.”
— Sam Jenkin, Chief Health and Safety Officer, WorkSafe Victoria
🔍 What this means for Victorian workplaces:
- • Psychosocial risk management is now a specific legal duty
- • Employers must actively eliminate or reduce these risks
- • Inspectors will evaluate preparedness, systems, and documentation
- • Psychological injury prevention is now a compliance priority
